Circa 1875

A rare and important antique sterling silver tromp l'eoil biscuit box with hinged lid and an Indian influenced ornately decorated finial, pediment and base. The sides of the biscuit box are chased and shaped to resemble a tablecloth in remarkable deteail. The maker is Frederick Elkington and it is hallmarked for 1875 in Birmingham, England. A very rare and exotic example of Victorian silver biscuit boxes.
