An unusual superior quality Gorham sterling silver half moon shaped box with an interior divider for compartments, engine turned and hand engraved with floral swags. Lightly gilded appearance and hinged lid. A 1920s style custom engraved monogram at the center of the cartouche. Weight 23.7 oz troy. Length 8 1/4"; depth 5 1/4"; height 1 1/4". Marked with Gorham's hallmarks and special order number surrounded by a rectangle. Date letter for 1917.

N6385 Important English Silver Cigarette and Tinder Box Arthur Wellesley 4th Duke of Wellington
A fine antique sterling silver cigarette case and match safe complete with a braided silk wick. The door to the case is hinged with recessed hinges displaying superb workmanship and the piece is in pristine condition with perfect color and patina. The case is housed in the original green leather case fitted with green velvet. The case is engraved with the coronet of a duke and the monogram AW intertwined for Arthur Wellesley 4th Duke of Wellington. The gold monogram on the case matches the engraved crest and the motto of the order of the Garter is engraved on the silver box. The retailer is Collingwood, a popular retailer in the reign of King Edward VII. The maker on the case is FB and the date is 1910. 3 3/8" by 2 3/8" by 3/4" deep.
The wick is hooked onto a silver chain and is pulled down into a chamber or cylindrical barrel on the side of the case where it would smolder until it was needed to light up.
