N9606 Important English Silver Humidor
London 1970
Anthony Hawksley
Once the property of Lew Grade later Baron Grade of Elstree for his cigars this amazing large impressive sterling silver humidor has his crest engraved on the front. In his biography he mentions inviting the Duke of Edinburgh to visit his studio at Elstree and having a silversmith on hand to show his craft. This was one of the items on display. The duke told him to buy it for his cigars. Lew grade was the owner of a television company and was responsible for bringing many famous artists to the UK. He was known for his love of fine cigars. We have a signed copy of his biography in which he described the purchase of the box and the involvement of Prince Philip in persuading him to buy it from the silversmith, Hallmarked.
