N5085 Caldwell Antique Sterling Letter Opener

A rare and unusual paper knife and letter opener marked by J E Caldwell of Philadelphia. The blade has a fine applied dragon with gold eyes and claws. The terminal is a carved piece of green jade meant to be the "fire" coming out of the dragon's mouth. A very heavy fine quality collectors item with the unusual application of jade. Script monogram on the blade and the reverse of the dragon side is plain.
