H6898 American Sterling Horse Trophy by Caldwell

An American sterling silver covered two handle cup with three dimensional horses perched on the lid and chased on one side of the body, the top edge and lid chased with grapes and vines. The trophy fits onto a plinth which has two applied shields which are inscribed "won by Sheldbake, owner Montpelier," etc and dated 1954. The shield has a presentation to the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association. Marked on the rim of the cup Caldwell and Sterling and on the cover and shield "sterling." The cup has never been monogrammed.
