RH5981 Rare and Unusual Gorham Antique Sterling Footed Tray Provenance: The Westinghouse Family A very unsual antique sterling chased and etched footed oval tray by the Gorham Co dated 1883 once owned by the Westinghouse family who were serious collectors with superb taste of rare silver during this period of the gilded age. Weight 28.85 troy ounces. 14" by 10" A note on the special technique: The chasing depicts poppies and smaller flowers with small vines and leaves in great detail and the tray has a quilted appearance as a result of the deep recessed areas that show extraordinary fine stippling. The highlight of the piece is the additional etched surface of the leaves showing natural leaf details. There is an applied edge on the top and four shell form feet on the base. A one of a kind item in perfect condition SOLD |
